The varsity baseball team will finish up a 15-13 season  against Arbor View on May 9. The Grizzlies are currently ranked 17th in the state of Nevada. Spring Valley has been spoiled with the baseball team’s success having gone to the playoffs every year since the opening of Spring Valley in 2004. The players may switch positions and graduate every year but one thing has remained the same and that is the head coach of the baseball team Paul Bassett. “Coach Bass” as the baseball players call him has been at the helm since 2004.

This team is full of talent everywhere on the field. This year there are four freshman, four sophomores, one junior and seven seniors. This team will be very young for the years to come. They are young but very talented and plenty room for development and time to mature as players.

Varsity baseball will be losing seven quality players but at the same time incoming talent will move up from junior varsity. One of those seniors is Connery Callaway who holds high expectations for him self but more importantly for the team.

“This team can go far into the playoffs I know it I always carry high expectations for myself and especially this year since I will be leaving but so far I have put respectable numbers up,” said Connery Callaway.

The players to look forward to include freshman sensation infielders and pitchers Bryce Bullock and Joey Melinchok and outfielder and pitcher Jaxson Otis. These players are successful because they embrace their roles on the team. Joey Melinchok starts on junior varsity but gets called up to pitch on varsity.

With only two games left on the season, the season is heading towards the end. Only one of those games are home which does give a team an advantage. This home game is much needed because if Spring Valley strings together some wins it will give them a confidence boost for the state playoffs. This team is really talented so they have high expectations going into the playoffs and expect to perform well.

The playoff schedule has not yet released due to the season not being finished. The remaining games are as follows: May 6 at Shadow Ridge and the final game is May 8 against Arbor View. Go out and support our varsity baseball team and watch our seniors’ last home high school game.
