Parents and members of the community wonder about the safety of students. Considering recent safety and security issues all around Spring Valley as well as the surrounding area.Schools are tasked with providing protection for students while ensuring education isn’t interrupted.
“I feel like the school takes necessary measures to take the school safe, providing police men, they also show care for students, but the scanning in my opinion doesn’t help” Said sophomore Logan Sarver
Recent incidents, such as intrusions involving homelessness, prompted the school to implement additional safety measures. These measures include enhanced security systems, mental health resources, and regular safety drills. Furthermore, trained law enforcement officers are stationed on campus to respond to emergencies and maintain a sense of safety. These officers help foster trust within the community and play a key role in de-escalating potential issues.
However, safety extends beyond campus, with many parents worrying about their children’s safety outside of school. Especially in areas such as the Strip and its surroundings.
“Cause when I’m outside, I’m usually with people I know that I trust and feel safe with,” Said Sophomore Lincoln Espiritu “I would say don’t trust strangers too easily and stay with those you trust and stay in crowded areas.”
Even with the dangers of the big city, students are still able to enjoy their life with visits to the Strip and other places. With safety tips from other students and police, students can stay away from suspicious situations and individuals. Including under the supervision of police and trusted authorities.
“Never be scared to report a crime of a suspicious person who can pose a threat. We want to make sure that you guys feel safe at school and also teach important things like anti-drugs, and anti-violence.” Said police officer Quacy Evelyn.
The issue of safety on campus and surrounding areas is an evolving issue. Spring Valley has improved security measures, and community collaboration. While other students and police teach others how to stay safe nearby. Spring Valley strives to provide an environment for students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, without fear.
