As Christmas draws near, Grizzly families embraced the annual tradition of decorating their homes with festive decorations. Strings of lights hang on roofs, and the family gathered to set up the Christmas tree. Amidst the holiday preparations, someone pulls out a collection of ugly Christmas sweaters.
While ugly Christmas sweaters are something grizzlies look forward to, some say that it is time to grow up and abandon this silly tradition.
The Tradition is still going strong !
While Las Vegas rarely drops below 50 degrees, many grizzlies still follow this little fun tradition of wearing Christmas sweaters. They come in all different, fun, and festive colors. Many ugly sweaters are generally Christmas themed. However, many sweaters now include pop culture references as well. While the goal for many years has been to wear the ugliest one out there, many students ,as well as celebrities, are showing off a new fashion sense in these cozy clothes.
“We had never done ugly sweaters in my family, but I know that they are still quite popular,” said Freshman Larry Lieu, “ It really is a fun tradition that is still around.”
“For me personally, I would like to get one with the Grinch on it,” Freshman Larry Lieu adds.
“I still think they are quite popular in my eyes,” said Junior Kayla Lamatrice, “Online, I still see celebrities rocking new styles that are festive and fashionable as well.”
It’s Getting Old !
However, in recent years, many have abandoned this tradition. Some grizzlies say that ugly Christmas sweaters are getting old and a thing of the past. The designs are not even trying to be creative as well. Many sweaters have gotten to the point where the design is just another person wearing a sweater.
“I would say that ugly sweaters are getting old,” said Junior Bryan Bustos-Santana, “The designs for each sweater just seem repetitive, and it really is more of a trend than a yearly tradition. ”
“I don’t think the ugly sweater trend is even popular,” said Junior Brandon Chacon Arteaga, “It really should have died off ages ago and the designs are just not it.”
“They aren’t even Christmas themed at this point, “ Junior Brandon Chacon Arteaga adds.
Final Verdict
Many grizzlies say that this tradition is clearly a thing of the past. It was something they did when they were kids, but have slowly stopped doing as time passed. It isn’t necessarily that the Christmas spirit has left them, but the simple fact that it is weird to be wearing a sweater in Vegas weather. Grizzlies often say that the designs are boring.
However, with shifting temperatures in Las Vegas, the thought of buying an ugly Christmas sweater for this cold year might not be such a bad idea anymore. With the added comforts comes great laughter from family and friends.
