Do the Democrats really want unity?

President Joe Biden (D)

In the aftermath of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, himself and other prominent Democrats have called for the country to unify and heal together. There’s no problem in saying that, except that the Democrats haven’t really been true to their words.

Even though President Biden’s victory was certified after the Capitol Hill riot and some objections from members of the Senate GOP, top Democrats still called for the resignations of Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). This is extremely hypocritical, not only because Democrats have objected to the last three Republican election wins, but also because it goes against their commercialized theme of unity.

In the entire certification process, the only Democrat who actually tried to work towards unity and bipartisanship was Dianne Feinstein. This might as well make her one of the only few sane Democrats left.

Another recent example of a Democrat totally forgetting about unity is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s twitter tantrum with Senator Ted Cruz after Cruz’s attempt at bipartisanship following the Wall Street chaos turned sour. In short, Ocasio-Cortez told Cruz that “you almost had me murdered three weeks ago” and that “if you want to help you should resign”, except that Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t even at the Capitol Building when the riot happened (she was at the Cannon building) and the only goal that Cruz wanted to achieve before and during the certification process was creating an extended period to review and investigate voter irregularities. Not sure how that correlates with wanting to murder Ocasio-Cortez.

Not a very good look for AOC.

President Biden has many-a-time touted his ability to compromise in the Senate and be as bipartisan and unifying as one could be, yet so far his presidency isn’t really reflecting that. Biden has signed as many executive orders in his first two weeks in office as Donald Trump and Barack Obama did in their first two weeks, combined. So far, Biden’s executive orders seem to be caving to the Left more than he was guaranteed before taking office. For example, he stated during the campaign trail that he would not ban fracking, yet he has stopped construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Also, most of his other executive orders have been reversals of Trump’s past EO’s, which doesn’t really sound like compromise to me.
