The worse feeling before taking the final exams is having the anxiety and the mindset of knowing you’re going to fail. But don’t fear as these are some strategies you can start doing before our finals which beings May 21, 2018, to May 24, 2018.
Although you may feel like you’re the only one stressing and feeling hopeless about taking the final exams, it is very natural and everyone goes through this phase. However, that little adrenaline that is pumping through your blood may help jumpstart you on the path to success.
Even though this is a no-brainer, be sure to study! But do not study and cram every lesson from quarter 3 and 4 into one night, be sure to plan out your studying. Your brain will not be able to process all the information in one night. Don’t know how to start studying for your finals? Start off with quizlet! Quizlet is a free website where students are able to make flashcards. Quizlet also provides many other options for students to study! If quizlet doesn’t work, if you received a study guide from your teacher, be sure to do it! Most likely the study guide will, most of the time, prepare you for the finals.
Another strategy to start now if you haven’t started yet is to get a good night rest! Having a good night rest will give your brain the ability to recall the things you have studied previously. If you don’t have a good night sleep, you’ll more likely have anxiety and won’t be able to focus during the finals.
Read every question carefully and attempt every question! The biggest yet simplest reason why students are missing points they shouldn’t be missing is because they are misreading the questions! Students also leave the questions they don’t know the answer to, blank! Taking an educated guess is better than no answer, as you’ll have a 25% chance of getting the question right.
Take your time but most importantly pace yourself. Taking your time during the finals is very important as you’ll be able to answer the questions better. However if you don’t pace yourself, you might miss the questions you potentially might know the answer to. If you’re stuck on a question, skip it and come back to it to the end! Never be stuck on one question as you will waste time for other questions you’ll need to answer.
The most important strategy students should practice before finals is to relax. Having anxiety attacks or can’t remember the answers to a simple question? Just slow down, take a mini break, and take a deep breath. Relaxing comes a long way during the finals and will most definitely help you not blank out on something or become tense.
