Three Grizzlies celebrated National Signing Day on February 2, 2017 by signing their letters of intent to continue their sports career at the next level. Senior student athletes Bryce Bullock, Jozee DeCunzo, and Nick Rupp all made it one step closer to fulfilling their dreams of playing at the collegiate level.
DeCunzo, an All-Southern and All-Sunset second team soccer player in her junior season, signed to the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), despite missing most of her senior year due to her second broken collarbone. Inspired by her parents and other teammates, DeCunzo, a four year varsity player, was considered a leader all four years by her coaches and teammates.
“Officially signing with UNLV was exciting because their soccer team is improving and it’s a D1 school that offered me a full ride scholarship to play for them,” said DeCunzo. ‘With the school noticing my scholarship it helps others realize it’s possible no matter what school it is it’s exciting.”
Bullock, a four year varsity player, has a passion for the game of baseball and carries himself with a positive attitude and a role model to others. He will continue his career in college with expectations for whatever’s next. Third baseman, Pitcher, and shortstop for the varsity baseball team Bullock made his decision to go to UNLV. Bullock was a MaxPreps 2nd team player of the year.
“UNLV was the all around perfect match for me, the atmosphere and the coaching staff is great quality, said Bullock. “I know they will help me grow as a player and as a person and I’m stoked.”
Left handed ace Nicholas Rupp, a Nevada Preps first team pitcher, has signed to College of Southern Nevada. Rupp is leader by example and is inspired by any pro athlete. Becoming a pro is something Rupp has worked for and nothing less. He is another four year varsity player with love for the game. He also noted that he wants people to realize it’s possible no matter where you’re from hard work gets you somewhere.
“I’m excited for new journeys and experience at the collegiate baseball level,” said Rupp.
The three have served as a motivation for many around campus.
“Seeing people that I know and see almost everyday is motivational and it makes me want the recognition and achievement they received,” said Freshman William Rodriguez, a baseball player and International Baccalaureate student.
These athletes get recognition from students and staff of their achievements and these standout athletes motivate everyone to get better at what they do.
“These athletes have helped around the school and you see them do excellent things for teammates and team for success,” said Athletic Administrator Greg Stack.
