Womens’ Volleyball Prepares for Upcoming Season

With spring almost gone and summer around the corner, this marks the first couple of months of the start of intramurals for the fall sports. Out of the all the fall sports from tennis to football, volleyball is undergoing a radical upgrade. The head coach for volleyball is already mentioning future changes, new equipment, and how future athletes should prepare.

Head coach Lisa Keith is looking forward to a new group of girls and is already ordering new equipment such as new volleyball bags and new balls for the new season.  She is also giving some tips to the freshman that are planning on trying out for the season.

“Two main things I would like the girls to do is to bring their athletic packet already filled before tryouts and would also like them to know how to handle a volleyball,” said coach Keith.

Last years varsity placed second in the Western Warrior Classic Tournament. The team plans to improve their standing for this coming season.

Alex Lagunas is definitely excited for the new season as she is striving to make it into junior varsity for her sophomore year.” I want to improve on many levels but I mainly want to work on calling the ball and on my confidence, ” said Lagunas. She is also planning on working on her back sets and her jump serves.

“When I went to the past volleyball games, I noticed that the players didn’t call the ball or just didn’t call the ball loud enough. If there isn’t team work, there is no team,” said student Jasmine Coyu. Coyu is planning on trying out for her first year of volleyball and is already working on her bumps and serves. She mentions that she is both nervous and confident for tryouts in August.

The week of August 11-15 are the planned dates for intramurals, and tryouts are on August 18-19 with a big car wash fundraiser in between on Saturday, Aug 16 from 8-12 pm.
