Wrestlers are back on their feet for the winter season and are continuing their undefeated record with Coach Fred Meyers. Recently, our Grizzly wrestlers had four wins and one loss in the Liberty Duals and took third place.
The Wrestler of the Week for the week of December 3rd to December 7th has been awarded to Silvano Villanueva for taking over the tournament with five pins, and is still undefeated. Just one more reason to have hope for the upcoming season to be prodigious.
“I’m proud of myself, but I couldn’t have accomplished a performance like that if it wasn’t for the support of my team,” said Villanueva. He is hoping that they will do better than last season. Silvano’s goal is to make top three in the region.
“So far we are did better than last season, but that could change if we are not focused,” he said.
“Coach Meyers was delighted to have me as a returning wrestler,” said Sophomore Danny Diaz. When he made varsity in his freshman year he knew that he wanted to continue the sport. “He told me that I was one of the best sophomores on varsity,” said Diaz.
Last season, Grizzlies took first place in the first tournament to start of the season. And they continued carrying that title by taking first again by winning the Liberty Duals.
“Most of those banners in the gym is dedicated to wrestling, and we deserve some recognition on our hard work,” said Meyers.
“There is no way I’m going to push my wrestlers if they’re not going to be just as good as last year,” said Meyers. He plans on going for the win, and not stopping until his short term goal is completed, and that goal is to dominate the upcoming dual on Saturday, December 8th at home. “Last season we took first… and we will not go back,” said Meyers.
