Spring Valley’s Model United Nations team swept the awards last Friday at the 2012 BYU Model UN Conference in Provo, Utah. Representing South Africa, Estonia, Argentina, Sri Lanka, and Panama, our grizzlies started off by winning a record 13 research awards.
Tyler Teresi and Meriem Massoudi won “Outstanding Delegate” recognition in the Model European Union, while Mackenzie Leavitt and Jonathon Teague each won the coveted title of “Best Delegate” in their committees.
Eight of our students representing the nation of Estonia earned an “Honorable Mention” delegation award for outstanding teamwork while the highest honor, the “Best Delegation” award went to Karina Diaz and Evelyn Rios who represented Panama in the Organization of American States. Even more impressive, the dynamic duo of Karina and Evelyn won the highest award at the conference while only speaking Spanish!
Spring Valley students performed so well at the conference, advisors Ian Salzman and Lisa Ancona were given the “Outstanding Advisors Award,” beating out over 25 Utah Schools for the prestigious title. Congratulations to our entire Model UN team!
